When Listing Your Home
What’s a realtor’s favorite word? Declutter! Before listing your home, your realtor is likely to give you tips for staging and making your space look sale ready. Below are a select few tips from homeowners and how Corrigan Moving can support!
- Boxes for decluttering! Are you aware that Corrigan customers may receive free used boxes when they book their move*? If available, our customers can get various sized boxes for free. Corrigan’s offices also stock an assortment of supplies for purchase, such as bubble wrap, packing paper and tape. Start decluttering and packing before your realtor schedules your house pictures and make your house most desirable in the pictures. A lot of customers call Corrigan and schedule a move date prior to listing their house for this reason. Moving dates can be adjusted once your house is under contract, so capitalize on as many perks as you’re able!
- Garage a mess? Wardrobe boxes may be your solution! Wardrobe boxes are large and tall, perfect for holding oversized items. You can leave the top of the wardrobe box open to organize and store children’s toys, sports equipment and long handled yard tools. This is sure to make your garage look cleaner and bigger with little effort! Click here for more about wardrobe boxes.
- Patch your walls like a professional. If you have small nail holes or painted walls needing to be touched up, make sure to do so prior to your real-estate photos. Need to match paint colors? With a small knife (be careful!), carefully remove a quarter size hole from the top layer of paint. It is best to do this from a discreet area, like behind furniture or a low corner. Take that small paint swatch to your local hardware store or paint shop, where they have the tools to match your paint color exactly. Using a drywall patch kit, fix your holes and paint with your matching touch up paint. It’ll look as good as new! Here’s a sample demonstration of how to get the perfect paint piece.
During Showings
Once your home is on the market, you’ll spend time away to let others walk through and visualize themselves living there. Many homeowners who have used Corrigan Moving have given us tips to make the time away during showings easier.
- Pack a suitcase. Homeowners want to have their valuable items or personal documents hidden away. Many customers have found packing a small suitcase with these items to be an easy way to grab and go at the time of a showing.
- Find a local pet daycare. Dogs and cats will also need a place to go during showings. Finding a local doggy daycare or daily pet care facility is a great solution to keep your pets happy and safe.
- Entertain the kiddos! Parents know getting children out the door can be a small undertaking. Packing a backpack with games, small toys or art supplies can be a great way to keep kids entertained and happy when frequently leaving the home.
- Free, free, free! Discover free ways to pass the time during showings. If showings are scheduled back-to-back, you’re likely to find yourself away for hours at a time. Visiting your local park, farmers market, or libraries are free and easy ways to spend time. If you are moving nearby, consider booking a guided tour around your new city. Even if you are no stranger to your new town, you could be surprised by learning new and noteworthy history!
Offer: Accepted!
Bravo! Once your home is under contract, the real work begins. Providing you have not contacted Corrigan Moving yet for a free in-home or virtual estimate, now’s the time! Your local sales representative will develop a customized moving quote based on the services you are looking for. Below are some things to consider before your move consultation.
- Elect who’s packing. Corrigan Moving offers full packing service. We also offer packing on a smaller scale, such as boxing up only mattresses, TVs or fragile items. - Decide what is you are moving. Establishing a plan for items to move prior to your move survey is vital to acquiring an accurate estimate. Our sales representative will go room by room throughout your house in order to get a complete and inclusive inventory to accurately estimate the scope of your move. Your move inventory can always be changed, nonetheless you will want to have an understanding of what items you wish to have handled by Corrigan.
- Identify donation locations. For items you would like to donate, investigate local secondhand and thrift stores. Many can arrange free pickup services for donated items, remember these can be booked weeks in advance. Plan ahead and schedule a donation pickup before your move date. Corrigan supports Habitat for Humanity, who has several locations offering free donation pick up services.
- Research what can and cannot be moved. Moving companies cannot transport items such as gasoline containers, chemicals or anything caustic (a complete list of prohibited items can be found here). Your community is likely to have resources or a local return drive where they’ll receive hazardous items and electronics to be properly disposed of. Waste Management has more details on properly disposing your hazardous household items.
