Now, with your big move a little over a month away, consider adding these simple tasks to your to-do list:
Downsize
Transporting unnecessary items can be both costly and time consuming. Start by asking yourself, do I need to take this item with me? If the answer is no, having a garage sale or donating items to charity are both great ways to clear your residence of unneeded items while earning extra money or valuable tax deductions in the process.
The process of downsizing also applies to the variety of perishable goods that may be filling up your pantry or refrigerator. Plan meals ahead of time and only buy food that will be used before moving day. By planning and using the food you currently have stored in your pantry or freezer, you’ll save money and ensure that food is not wasted when moving day comes.
Send Change of Address Notifications
As you prepare to move, you will want to notify your friends, relatives, and business contacts of your move. In addition, you should also plan to notify utility companies, insurance agencies and family physicians. Submitting a dated change of address to the post office along with a personal moving announcement to friends and family ensures valuable information does not get misplaced during your transition and nobody is left in the dark.
Stay in Contact with your Coordinator
Don’t forget that your moving company is there to help. If you come up with any questions throughout the process, your move coordinator is more than happy to help answer them. Also, if you downsize more than you originally planned, let your coordinator know. If they are properly informed, they will be able to revise your moving estimate to accurately reflect exactly what you are planning on moving.
With only a month to go before the big day, it is important to stay on top of your list of tasks. By handling a little each day and approaching each necessary task in a timely manner, you will be ready for your move and able to sit back and relax when moving day finally arrives.
